The IEC’s 2006 Annual Production and Marketing Conference
will be held in one of the world’s leading egg producing
countries. According to FAO data Mexico is the fifth
largest egg producer in the world.
Mexicans eat more eggs than any other nation, consumption
averaging 344/ person in 2005. The conference will be
held in the country’s second largest city, Guadalajara,
which has around six million people and is in the
Western Central Highlands.
Guadalajara’s
contributions to Mexican life include: Mariachi music,
tequila, the broad- rimmed sombrero hat, charreadas
(rodeos) and the Mexican Hat Dance. There are a large
number of museums, galleries, festivals, historic
buildings, good places to stay and eat and a lively
nightlife. Temperatures range between 15 and 25C in
September but you may need an umbrella.
Four lovely plazas surround the giant twin- towered
cathedral, at the heart of the city. It is the city’s
most famous symbol and most conspicuous landmark. Visa,
American Express and MasterCard are usually accepted.
The Hilton Hotel is the venue for the meeting, which
will take place from 17- 22 September 2006.
